For example, it has been found that Wikipedia contains bias about women and minority groups, since most Wikipedia contributors are white Western males (cfr: <a href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/2106.11410\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Field, A., 2021<\/a>). In addition, people belonging to ethnic minorities and non-Western people are significantly less covered on this encyclopedia (cfr.: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/full\/10.1177\/2378023118823946\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/full\/10.1177\/2378023118823946\" target=\"_blank\">Adams, J. <em>et al<\/em>, 2019<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Objectives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Under-Represented Writers (URW) Project is an attempt to explore and mitigate the under-representation of non-Western writers in the digital landscape by providing a set of resources:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Under-Represented Writers (URW) and Under-Represented Books (URB) ontologies, designed to encode biographical information about writers and information about their works;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a Knowedge Graph (KG), namely a dataset that includes knowledge gathered from several online resources: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/wikipedia.org\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/wikipedia.org\" target=\"_blank\">Wikipedia<\/a>, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/wikidata.org\" target=\"_blank\">Wikidata<\/a>, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/openlibrary.org\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/openlibrary.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Open Library<\/a>, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/goodreads.com\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/goodreads.com\" target=\"_blank\">Goodreads<\/a>, and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Google Books<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A set of strategies and resources for the extraction of biographical events from raw-text biographies gathered from writers&#8217; Wikipedia pages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Resources<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/underrepresented.di.unito.it\/index.php\/ontologies\/\">LOOK at the Ontologies and their LODE<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/purl.archive.org\/urwriters\/faceted\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Navigate the Knowledge graph<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/purl.archive.org\/urwriters\/sparql\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Try the sparql endpoint<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In recent years, many scholars have analyzed the underrepresentation and the misrepresentation of non-Western people in several resources largely adopted for research in Natural Language Processing.
